City Begins 2019/2020 Goals, Initiatives and Outcomes Process

Post Date:08/10/2018 4:26 PM

Every two years the Williamsburg City Council identifies new strategic objectives for City government. Biennial Goals, Initiatives and Outcomes (GIOs) provide an expression of the City's priorities.

The first step in the GIO process is conducting and reviewing the National Citizen Survey. The survey is a product of the National Research Center and 2018 marks the tenth year that Williamsburg has used the National Citizen Survey as a part of the biennial goal setting process.

This year’s survey was conducted with a 1,600 sample size with 379 responders representing a 25% response rate. The report demonstrates satisfaction of respondents in eight facets of community livability:  Safety, Mobility, the Natural Environment, the Built Environment, the Economy, Recreation and Wellness, Education and Enrichment, and Community Engagement.

With the survey completed and presented to City Council and the public, the City will host one or two Public Workshops expressly for the purpose of gathering public input for the 2019/2020 GIOs. City residents are invited to join City Council members and staff to share feedback and ideas. The public workshops represent just one of nine opportunities for citizen involvement and input during the process that includes public meetings and an online forum.

For reference, the 2018 National Citizen Survey, current and previous GIOs and previous National Citizen Survey Results are available online at williamsburgva.gov/goals.
