Happy Fall Y’all!

Williamsburg Parks and Recreation is excited to offer a variety of programs and activities this fall such as our annual Canine Carnival happening at Waller Mill Dog Park and new this year, Halloween Smash Pickleball Tournament! We offer a variety of classes, lessons and youth and adult sports leagues! We hope to see you at one of our programs!

Canine Carnival
Come Paw-ty at the Park!
Williamsburg Parks & Recreation Department will be having a Canine Carnival on Saturday, October 14, 2017 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Waller Mill Park located at 901 Airport Road, Williamsburg VA 23188. Bring your furry friends and visit vendors selling pet products and offering services for your dogs. We will have dogs present from Heritage Humane Society hoping to be adopted and find their new fur-ever home! There will be the demonstrations, costume contests and wiener dog races as well as free dog caricatures and food! Kids crafts happening throughout the event, raffles and 50/50 benefiting Heritage Humane Society. Hope you'll join us!

Halloween Smash Pickleball Tournament
This is going to be a SPOOKtacular event!
Williamsburg Parks and Recreation presents "Halloween Smash" Pickleball Tournament on Saturday, October 28, 2017. There will be 6 indoor courts for play, at the Quarterpath Recreation Center located at 202 Quarterpath Road, Williamsburg, VA 23185, and skill rating will be used for assigning brackets in men's, women's and mixed doubles. Find a partner and sign up!

Boys & Girls hit the court for fun and friendly competition
The Williamsburg Parks & Recreation Department is proud to offer the Youth Basketball League at Quarterpath Recreation Center. Our mission is to instill the ideals of teamwork, good sportsmanship, self-improvement, competition and work ethic in the youth of our community.

• Teams will play 8 games.
• Games for ages 7 - 17 are held on week nights.
• Games for ages 5-6 held Saturday morning.
• Games & practices will be held at Quarterpath Recreation Center & James City County Recreation Center & area schools.

Pre-Season Basketball Skills Clinic
Instructor Donovan Bridgeforth, Head Boys Basketball Coach at Jamestown High School and Founder of DreamChasers Basketball Skills Academy. Clinic at the Quarterpath Rec. Center.

Dates – October 8, 15, 22, 29 - $35/4 clinics $10/drop-in

Adult Fitness Classes Happening at Quarterpath Recreation Center

Come workout with a combination of basic ballet reps at the barre, movement across the floor, balance and constructive stretch and meditation. This workout, instructed by Amy Rowe, is designed to lengthen, strengthen, lift and inspire you. Bring yoga mat, resistance band/belt & towel. Classes intended for ages 18 and up.

Open to all levels, this is a slower-paced flow class geared towards those new to yoga or preferring a slightly gentler class instructed by Bettina Lee. Time is spent breaking down sun salutations and other poses fundamental to a Hatha yoga practice. Blocks and modifications are available for proper alignment and ease in the postures. Supplies needed: Yoga mat, water bottle and comfortable clothing. Blocks will be provided (if needed). Adults (17+).

Suitable for all levels, this class, instructed by Bettina Lee, helps build a strong core from which one can transition into new positions, exercises, and a positive personal attitude. This flow centers around control and precision, with a diversity of asanas and modifications to suit a range of levels. Supplies needed: Yoga mat, water bottle and comfortable clothing. Adults 17+. Drop in $8.50/class. No class 11/24.

Grab a racket and join the fun! Youth Tennis Lessons at Kiwanis Park

Quick Start Tennis Lessons (Grades K-3)
This program, instructed by Bob Artis, is for youth in grades K thru 3rd. A lower net, smaller court, low compression balls and youth rackets are used to help give the kids a better opportunity to keep the ball in play. This program is will be offered at Kiwanis Park Tennis Courts. No class 10/31.

Beginner Tennis Lessons (ages 8 – 12)
This program, instructed by Bob Artis, is for new and “rusty” returning players. This program combines instruction and play while emphasizing the fun and social aspects of tennis. The beginner lessons are offered at the Kiwanis Park Tennis Courts. (beginner teens welcome). No class 10/31.

Intermediate Tennis Lessons (ages 11 – 15)
This program, instructed by Lorenzo Sison, teaches the basics of tennis to players who have little or no tennis experience while building on fundamental strokes and techniques. Players are grouped accordingly to ability levels for drills.

Advance Tennis Lessons (grades 6 – 12)
This advanced program is instructed by Brent Hughes for Middle School and High School students. Students will be grouped by skill and ability level and will refine their technical and tactical skills through instruction and organized game scenarios. Appropriate for students focused on school team play or competitive tournaments. *no class Thanksgiving week.

Let the games begin! Adult Tennis & Basketball Leagues forming now!

Adult Tennis League
Join our Adult Tennis League and hit the courts for some friendly competition. Our Men’s and Women’s Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles Leagues are a great way to stay active, socialize and improve your game. Plus, with players of nearly all skill levels, there’s a place for you and your game. Matches are played Sunday through Friday at 7:30 to 9:30 pm.

Adult Basketball League
Don't let the kids have all the fun! Check out what our Adult Basketball League has to offer. Leagues are available for Men’s A, B, Veterans (35+) and Women’s. Teams play on weeknights at the Quarterpath Recreation Center with scorekeepers and referees.

March of the Monarch
Kids, join us at Waller Mill Park for an afternoon full of butterflies! This fun and educational program is for young aspiring butterfly enthusiast and will teach kids about Monarch Butterflies. We will explore the butterfly life cycle, food and habitat as well as their migration pattern with fun crafts and activities. This program is great for kids aged 4 -12. Kids, get in the spirit… Come dressed like a butterfly or caterpillar! Pre-registration encouraged.

Water Exploration Program
Our Water Exploration Program will give kids a hands-on opportunity to explore the reservoir and learn what makes a healthy water source, how our water sources are connected and how they impact the water sources around them. Activities will include dip netting for the invertebrates that call the reservoir their home, testing the water in various ways and discussing how all of these are interconnected. This program is great for kids ages 6 – 13 and will provide great reinforcement for many of the elementary and middle school environmental science SOLs. Max 20 participants. Pre-registration encouraged.
