At its Organizational Meeting July 2, City Council re-elected Clyde A. Haulman Mayor and Paul T. Freiling Vice Mayor.
The meeting at the Courthouse of 1770 followed a Swearing-In Ceremony at which The Hon. Michael E. McGinty, Jr. Presiding Judge, Williamsburg-James City Circuit Court, administered the oath of office to re-elected Council members Haulman, Freiling and Judith N. Knudson.
The Council then confirmed the appointments of Donna F. Scott, Clerk of Council; Christina Workman Shelton, City Attorney; and Jackson C. Tuttle, City Manager.
Since July 1, 1998, the Williamsburg City Council has returned to the Courthouse of 1770 where the Oath of Office is administered to newly elected City Council members, and the Council holds its biennial organizational meeting as prescribed by the Williamsburg City Charter.
Tom Hay, Supervisor of the Courthouse for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, serves as Sergeant of the City Hustings Court and opens the ceremony.
The mace of the City of Williamsburg was made in London in 1749 by a London silversmith and is held in trust for the City by the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.
