A vacancy exists on the Colonial Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Directors. The Colonial Soil and Water Conservation District (Colonial SWCD) is a political subdivision of state government which serves the City and four surrounding counties. The Colonial SWCD Board will nominate a city resident to fill the current vacancy to serve as a representative of the City of Williamsburg.
What does the District do?
Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCDs) have the primary responsibility of providing incentives for the voluntary implementation of conservation practices which address the improvement of soil and water resources. As such Virginia’s SWCDs have a dedicated role of administering the Commonwealth’s Virginia Agricultural Cost Share Program (VACS), which provides financial support to agricultural producers for the installation of best management practices (BMPs). The Colonial SWCD also provides support to its local governments in the form of assistance in the adminstration of each locality’s Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act Ordinance. While District staff support local and state regulations, the District is not a regulatory agency.
The Board of Directors meets on the 4th Tuesday of each month. Meetings are held at the Colonial SWCD office which is located at 3402 Acorn Street, Suite 103 in Norge, VA 23127. Meetings are open to the public and begin at 5:30pm.
