As a prelude to Arts Month in Williamsburg in September, the City of Williamsburg invites the entire community to the Virginia Symphony Orchestra (VSO) concert Thursday, August 30, 2012 at 7:30pm at William & Mary’s Lake Matoaka Amphitheatre. The performance is open to the public and co-sponsored by the City of Williamsburg, the College of William & Mary, William & Mary’s Student Assembly and APM Terminals.
In his third year performing at Lake Matoaka, VSO’s dynamic Associate Conductor Benjamin Rous returns with Symphony Under the Stars, a prelude to the VSO’s 2012-2013 program. It features selections by Mozart, Rossini, Scott Joplin, Marvin Hamlisch and more.
Guests are invited to bring family and friends, beach chairs and blankets. Personal coolers and picnic baskets will be permitted; however, no external alcohol will be allowed. Wine will be available for purchase on site. The doors will open at 6:30 pm. In the event of inclement weather, the performance will be held at Phi Beta Kappa Hall.
The Lake Matoaka Amphitheatre is located at 121 Ukrop Way. A campus map is available here.
The family-friendly concert is the first in a series of outdoor concerts that the Symphony is giving in the Hampton Roads area. For information about all VSO concerts and tickets, visit www.virginiasymphony.org.
