The purpose of the Williamsburg Area Arts Commission (WAAC) shall be to assist Williamsburg City Council and James City County Board of Supervisors and other appropriate bodies and organizations in supporting and stimulating excellence in the arts and in creating an atmosphere which encourages the growth, development, and accessibility of cultural amenities for the benefit of citizens and visitors.

The arts calendar is an on-line listing which features a broad array of arts events and cultural performances in the greater Williamsburg area. The majority of these activities have been funded through the Williamsburg Area Arts Commission arts grant program.

Criteria for Funding and Application Guidelines
The following criteria must be met before consideration of funding.
Grant Application
The Williamsburg Area Arts Commission welcomes all 501(c)(3) arts and cultural organizations to apply for supplementary funding for a project or performance which meets WAAC grant requirements.
All applications are due to the City of Williamsburg Finance Office before 4 p.m. on December 1, 2012. Applications received after this date will not be considered.

Funding Sources
Total funding for the FY 2014 arts grant program was $ 120,000. This comprises gifts of $55,000, in equal portions, made by The City of Williamsburg and James City County plus a $10,000 state challenge grant from the Commonwealth of Virginia.
