Community Programs
Community Programs are state and/or local initiatives implemented by the department.
Comprehensive Services Act
For At-Risk Youth and Families [CSA].
This system brings together local agencies to address out-of-home placement, in-home services, and community wrap-around services for at-risk youth.
Food Distribution Program.
Monthly distribution of food to elderly, disabled, and income eligible families.
Senior Services.
Social workers make home visits, provide nursing home screens, and case management services, as well as referrals to the Historic Triangle Senior Center, Peninsula Agency on Aging, and other providers.
Special Needs Population.
Citizens with disabilities receive outreach and referral services. (See Americans with Disabilities).
Youth Services.
Youth outreach consisting of three projects:
- Youth Leadership Council (leadership training)
- Community Prevention Project (addresses the needs of at-risk youth)
- Summer Jobs, Education and Training Program
Disaster Assistance/Shelter Management [FEMA].
In conjunction with Red Cross and emergency support agencies, staff respond to individual emergencies and provide support services to citizens in crisis situations (such as fires, etc.), in addition to natural or man-made disasters affecting the community.
All programs and services are provided without regard to race, color, national origin, disability, sex, age, political beliefs, or religion.
