OverviewThe Williamsburg Safety And Fire Education House provides a mobile and convenient forum for fire safety and crime prevention programs. It consists of a 34 foot long house trailer outfitted with kitchen, bedroom, bath and living room appliances. Target audiences include:

Adults and civic groups
Senior citizens
Physically challenged
Employees of business and industry
The unit enables us to expand our current educational programs to provide hands on education in the areas of fire safety, fire and crime prevention. The mobile unit is more convenient to individuals, groups, civic organizations and schools.

How to Escape Fire...
Displays address the importance of home fire escape plans and provide step-by-step instructions on how to design a home fire escape plan.

A variety of home fire hazards can be illustrated throughout the three rooms. Hazards include:
overhead electrical outlets
unattended food on stove
appliance cords hanging over edges of counters
uncovered electrical outlets around children
frayed electrical cords
cords extending under carpeting
ashtrays left on armchairs
smoking in bed
children playing with matches
Child Proofing...
A display illustrating the various safety latches available for child-proofing a home would emphasize keeping matches and lighters out of children's reach.
Smoke Detectors and Fire Extinguishers...
Displays and demonstrations illustrate the proper maintenance and placement of smoke detectors and fire extinguishers.
Reporting an Emergency...
A closed circuit telephone system will allow children to dial 911 and to practice reporting an emergency. Adults will view a video or display on how a call is received and how the information is dispatched from the communications center.
Features
Features of the mobile unit include a smoke generator for simulation of fire conditions, smoke detectors, and alerting devices for the hearing impaired. Security devices for the prevention of crime and detection of intruders will also be illustrated.
