WILLIAMSBURG LOCAL EMERGENCY PLANNING COMMITTEE
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Williamsburg Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) is to assist city government in the evaluation and oversight of plans to control or mitigate hazardous conditions:
- That might pose a threat to the health, safety, and environment of the citizens of the City of Williamsburg;
- With the potential to cause significant property loss; or
- With the potential to disrupt business or services in the City.
The LEPC acts as a reviewing authority to help coordinate and evaluate planning for all identified hazards. The LEPC ensures that all hazards are identified and evaluated and that appropriate agencies prepare plans to control or mitigate the hazards. The LEPC's responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Review all City of Williamsburg Emergency Operations Plans annually;
- Evaluate equipment, procedures, staffing, and training for responding to emergency conditions in the City;
- Oversee and critique drills conducted of the City's emergency plans;
- Coordinate responses to citizen requests for information about hazardous materials used or stored in the City;
- Make recommendations regarding emergency planning, prevention, and education,
- Local disaster recovery task force.
