Project Lifesaver
Project Lifesaver was established in April of 1999 as an initiative of the 43rd Virginia Search and Rescue Company of the Chesapeake Sheriff's Office. Project Lifesaver's mission is to use technology in assisting those who care for victims of Alzheimer's and Related Mental Dysfunction Disorders (ARMD) and victims who become lost. Project Lifesaver places personalized radio transmitters on identified persons with ARMD. These transmitters assist care givers and local emergency agencies in locating those who cannot help themselves.
Joint Area Project
The Williamsburg Police Department has invited the James City Police Department and the York County Sheriff's Department to be a vital link in this project. All three jurisdictions have under went training in January 2002 in the operation and certification of Project Lifesaver. This program is also offered in cooperation with the Williamsburg Fire Department, which also has trained personnel on staff.
This program has the support of the Williamsburg Alzheimer's Association, Williamsburg Pilots Club and welcomes any other organization to be an active part of this exceptional program. If you know of anyone that may benefit from this program, please contact this office for information.
