230 North Henry Street
Prince George Parking Garage opened in April of 2004.
The new Prince George Parking Garage, located in the center of a key block in downtown Williamsburg , is carefully designed to blend with the character of the surrounding neighborhood and structures. The three level Garage provides 362 additional public parking spaces for Williamsburg ’s downtown commercial area. The Garage is designed as a series of distinct pavilions that take advantage of critical view sheds into the site. This provides passersby with the illusion of a much smaller building. Additionally, existing buildings frame attractive views to these pavilions in a manner similar to that of Williamsburg ’s historic streetscapes.
Vehicular access will be from Henry Street and is separated from the pedestrians. Pedestrian traffic will enter and depart the garage from both Boundary and Prince George streets. Access to the nearby Prince George shops and Colonial Williamsburg Merchant's Square shops will be improved by the additional Streetscape project planned for Prince George Street.
Although not technically part of Williamsburg ’s “Historic Area,” the block where the Prince George Parking Garage is located was an important part of the town of Williamsburg in the 18 th century. Lying between the College of William and Mary and the homes of influential Williamsburg residents near the Governor’s Palace, this area was heavily used by local craftspeople who built the 18 th century city.
The Prince George Parking Garage was constructed in cooperation with the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, and is owned and operated by the City of Williamsburg .
