The City of Williamsburg operates under the Council-Manager form of government. All 5 members of Council are elected at-large, and appoint the Mayor, Vice-Mayor, City Manager, City Attorney, and Clerk of Council. The Mayor chairs the City Council and acts as the official head of the city government. The City Manager administers the city government, carrying out the policies of City Council.

City Council Appoints New City Manager
At a special meeting on June 30, 2015, the Williamsburg City Council unanimously and enthusiastically appointed Marvin “Marc” Collins III as the new City Manager effective August 1, 2015. He replaces City Manager Jackson Tuttle, who retires on July 1st. Williamsburg Deputy City Manager Jodi Miller will serve as Interim City Manager until Collins arrives.

The City Council meets in regular session on the second Thursday of each month at 2:00 p.m., in the Stryker Building located at 412 North Boundary Street. A work session is held the Monday of the same week at 4:00 p.m. in the Stryker Building. Meetings are open to the public and televised on WMSBG Cable Channel 48

. Council members serve four year, staggered terms. Elections are held in May on even-numbered years.
