Williamsburg Project Lifesaver
Minutes save lives! A Lifesaver Transmitter Device reduces search time and manpower! Project Lifesaver assistance is available 24 hours a day.
Project Lifesaver is a 501 (C)(3) community based, public safety, non-profit organization that provides police, fire/rescue, and caregivers with a program designed to protect, and when necessary, quickly locate individuals with cognitive disorders who are prone to the life-threatening behavior of wandering.
The service is free of charge to those that participate in the program. The organization was founded in 1999 in Chesapeake, Virginia. This program's necessity was determined by the correlation between cognitive conditions and the act of wandering. With the dramatic increase in cognitive conditions since the inception of the organization, the program has grown from a localized program to a program recognized internationally as a proven and effective method of bringing loved ones home
.
Local Involvement
The Williamsburg Police Department has been participating in the Project Lifesaver program for nearly two decades and currently has multiple residents participating.
This program has the support of the Williamsburg Alzheimer's Association, Williamsburg Pilots Club, and welcomes any other organization to be an active part of this exceptional program.
If you know of anyone that may benefit from this program, please contact Officer Charles Stamper.
How You Can Help!
The Project Lifesaver Program is offered 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The program is currently in the process of soliciting funds for the purchase of new transmitters and associated equipment for issuance. Funding for Project Lifesaver is a result of private and corporate donations and grants. Donations are used directly for program equipment. Your tax-deductible contribution is greatly appreciated. The Williamsburg Volunteer Fire Department has agreed to assist with handling your tax-deductible contributions. Please indicate your support of Project Lifesaver on your check or money order.
