Elected / Appointed Officials

City of Williamsburg residents are represented by a five-member City Council, all of whom serve at-large seats and appoint the City Manager, City Attorney, and Clerk of Council. City Council also appoints two representatives to serve on the Williamsburg-James City County School Board.

The entirety of the City falls within Virginia's 1st District in the U.S. House of Representatives, the 1st District in the State Senate,  and 96th District of the House of Delegates.

A variety of boards, commissions, and committees also support the City government, and the members of these volunteer boards are appointed by the City Council. Learn more on the boards, commissions, and committees page.

Lobbying

The City of Williamsburg does not employ or retain private lobbyists. The City is a member of the Virginia Municipal League, which lobbies on behalf of local governments in Virginia generally. Various City staff members have participated in the legislative process when there are issues of particular concern to the City of Williamsburg.
