[ARCHIVED] City of Williamsburg COVID-19 Vaccination Update – Feb. 27, 2021

The Greater Williamsburg Clinic, operating out of the Colonial Williamsburg Visitor Center, administered 2,257 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine this week for a total of 6,467 vaccinations since its opening on Friday, Jan. 22, 2021.

On Friday, Feb. 26, the Virginia Department of Health corrected a reporting error in its data so that it now correctly reflects the number of City of Williamsburg residents who have received the vaccine. Prior to Friday, VDH data showed 136 doses of the vaccine had been administered to City residents; the total as of Saturday morning stands at 3,151 or about 20% of the population and above the state average of 14.5%.

“City residents can rest assured that our distribution of the vaccine is comparable to the rest of the state,” City Manager Andrew O. Trivette said. “Like many of our residents, we’ve been extremely frustrated that the state dashboard did not reflect the good work being done for our community. We’re pleased that the problem has been corrected.”

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) continues to handle the scheduling for the Greater Williamsburg Clinic, prioritizing those aged 65 and older who have pre-registered with the health department. However, those who received their first-dose appointments through their employers will receive their second-dose appointments through the same channels.

We ask for your continued patience as we work toward administering vaccinations to more segments of the general public. For questions about vaccine distribution in Greater Williamsburg, call the information line at 877-724-1954; it is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. • A link sent by VDH to schedule a vaccine appointment on Friday, Feb. 26 at the Greater Williamsburg Clinic had been widely shared, resulting in hundreds of illegitimate appointments that had to be canceled. People who had their appointments canceled because of this incident remain on the VDH registry and will be contacted at a later date to schedule their appointment when it is their turn. When you are contacted to schedule your appointment, please do not share the link with others.
  • Gov. Ralph Northam announced the state would ease some of its public health restrictions, starting Monday, March 1:
    • The maximum capacity for outdoor social gatherings will increase from 10 to 25 people. Indoor gatherings remain limited to 10 people.
    • Alcohol sales will be permitted until midnight.
    • Outdoor entertainment venues can operate with up to 1,000 individuals or at 30% capacity, whichever is lower. Indoor venues will continue to have a 250-person limit.
  • VDH announced that additional pharmacy networks are beginning to administer COVID-19 vaccines to those aged 65 and older as part of a federal partnership that brought an additional 52,000 vaccines into Virginia this week.
