City of Williamsburg COVID-19 Vaccination Update – May 8, 2021

The Greater Williamsburg Clinic, operating out of the Colonial Williamsburg Visitor Center, administered 840 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine this week for a total of 21,715 since its opening on Friday, Jan. 22, 2021.

In a briefing on Thursday, May 6, Gov. Ralph Northam announced that he plans to fully lift COVID-19 mitigation measures on distancing and capacity limits on June 15 if cases continue to trend downward and vaccinations continue to increase. At this time, there are no specific plans to adjust the mask guidelines.

As a reminder, Northam updated Virginia’s outdoor mask policy last week to align with new guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Fully vaccinated Virginians do not have to wear a mask in outdoor settings except for large, crowded events like graduations and sporting events. Additionally, capacity limits for outdoor recreational sporting events were expanded to 1,000 spectators.

Starting Sunday, May 15:

  • The maximum number of individuals permitted in a social gathering will increase to 100 people for indoor settings and 250 for outdoor settings.
  • Indoor entertainment and public amusement venues will be allowed to operate at 50% capacity or 1,000 people. Outdoor venues will be able to operate at 50% capacity.
  • The number of spectators allowed at indoor recreation sporting events will be set at 250 spectators or 50% capacity, whichever is less.
  • Restaurants may return to selling alcohol after midnight, and dining room closures will no longer be required between midnight and 5 a.m.

Please remember to wear a mask, maintain physical distance from others, and wash your hands. People who have been vaccinated should continue to follow mitigation strategies.

As vaccine supply has become more available in more places, the demand for a mass vaccination clinic has diminished. The City of Williamsburg and James City County are working on a demobilization plan for the Greater Williamsburg Clinic; details will be announced next week.

The City of Williamsburg has posted its weekly vaccination update to its online hub, which collects the latest coronavirus information and visual data. This data includes the number of vaccinations administered at the Greater Williamsburg Clinic.
