The City of Williamsburg Fire Department, James City County Fire Department, and York County Fire and Life Safety Department were dispatched to 202 Quarterpath Road – Quarterpath Recreation Center – at 9:27 a.m.
The first unit arrived on scene at 9:32 a.m. and found fire and smoke coming from the roof and rear of the structure. Upon arrival, crews quickly attacked the fire and had it knocked down and contained by 9:54 a.m. The fire was marked under control at approximately 10:30 a.m.
A total of 27 firefighters responded to the incident, which is currently under investigation by the Williamsburg Fire Department’s Community Risk Reduction Team.
Quarterpath Recreation Center did not have any scheduled programs or activities, as it was closed today, Sunday, and Monday in observance of Independence Day. The rec center is expected to reopen as scheduled on Tuesday, July 6.
