The Williamsburg Area Arts Commission (WAAC) invites representatives from all interested arts organizations to its annual fall forum from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 21, 2021, this year a virtual event titled “Shaking the Money Tree: Grants and How to Get ‘Em.”
The forum’s focus will be on helping arts groups build effective funding plans, create effective proposals, and learn methods for effective leadership that help improve funding options. Resources designed specifically for arts nonprofits will also presented.
Speakers for the forum include Thomas Phelps, formerly with the National Endowment for the Humanities, and Robin Phillips, a grant writer. Both are currently Arts Commission members.
“We are pleased to offer a program that will extend beyond proposal writing to include specific sources for potential support for arts organizations,” said Patricia Rublein, WAAC’s chair. “With years of experience, Tom Phelps is able to provide strategies of matching projects to specific funds. We expect this will be a beneficial time for Development officers.”

The Fiscal Year 2023 Williamsburg Area Arts Commission grant application is now online. Area arts and cultural organizations who are registered as tax-exempt non-profits are eligible to apply for operating support. The deadline to apply is 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2021. Applications must be submitted online. The application information, as well as the WAAC grant guidelines and criteria, can be found online.
WAAC serves at the pleasure of the City of Williamsburg and James City County in supporting excellence in the arts as it administers a grant application program for non-profit arts organizations.
