Williamsburg Truth and Reconciliation Committee to Continue Work for Another Year

The City of Williamsburg has asked the seven members of the Williamsburg Truth and Reconciliation Committee (TRC) to continue serving on the workgroup for another year.

City Council formed the TRC in July 2021 to study the impact of racism, disenfranchisement, and racial injustice historically and presently on the residents of the City of Williamsburg. The committee first met in September 2021. All seven members have agreed to continue serving on the committee through June 2023 in order to continue their work and offer recommendations to City Council. The members are:

  • Bobby Braxton
  • Adam Canaday
  • Katherine Barko-Alva
  • Helen Casey-Rutland
  • Lawrence Gholson II
  • Laura Hill
  • Benming “Benny” Zhang

City Manager Andrew O. Trivette announced the extension of the TRC’s work at the City Council meeting on Thursday, June 9, 2022.

In the fall, the TRC will host public forums, panels, and seminars to further their research and to gain more insight into individuals’ experience with systemic racism and its effects on the Williamsburg community today. Stay tuned to the City’s website and social media channels for a schedule of events.
