City of Williamsburg to host Future Festivals to gather public input

Future Festivals LOGOThe City of Williamsburg will host a series of Future Festivals to gather public input as part of its biennial Goals, Initiatives, and Outcomes (GIO) process.

Every two years, the Williamsburg City Council identifies strategic objectives for the City government. The GIO document is an expression of the City’s priorities.

The City will host eight Future Festivals over the next several weeks. Attendees will play games designed to gather feedback that will help inform City Council and City staff as they develop the City’s workplan for the next two years.

The Future Festivals are scheduled for:

  • 5:30-7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 22 at Kiwanis Park, 125 Longhill Road
  • 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25 at Bicentennial Park, 320 Court St.
  • 9:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10 at Quarterpath Recreation Center, 202 Quarterpath Road
  • 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13 at Highland Park Community Park, 703 N. Henry St.
  • 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15 at Walsingham Academy, 1100 Jamestown Road
  • 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20 at Former DMV site, 952 Capitol Landing Road

Two more festivals will be scheduled on the William & Mary campus at a later date. Updates will be posted to williamsburgva.gov/futurefest and on the City’s social media channels.

The festivals will also include lawn games, such as cornhole, horseshoes, giant chess and checkers, and giant Connect-4; a coloring station; a video booth; and free hamburgers and hot dogs. Attendees will be given punch cards; anyone who completes the tasks on the punch card wins a prize.

“We wanted to reinvent the public input format to make these sessions more appealing and accessible,” City Manager Andrew O. Trivette said. “This festival format is not only more fun, it is mobile. We are bringing the public input sessions to the community rather than hoping the community comes to us.”
