The Williamsburg Police Department is currently in possession of property recovered earlier this month during an investigation of larcenies from vehicles in the City of Williamsburg and York County.

On Sept. 1, 2022, at approximately 4:20 a.m., officers responded to the 400 block of Merrimac Trail for a report of tampering with vehicles. Upon arriving in the area, officers located a suspect vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. Five occupants were identified inside the suspect vehicle.
The initial investigation revealed that the occupants were in possession of various items that were linked to previous larcenies from vehicles in the City of Williamsburg and York County. Flashlights, gloves, and a mask were found inside the suspect vehicle. One of the occupants admitted to illegally entering vehicles.
The following individuals were identified:
- Earl Thomas Dildy (22 of Suffolk, VA)
- Yalaina Charlese Greene (20 of Smithfield, VA)
- Corbriel Nasir Chalk (20 of Portsmouth, VA)
- Khalid Desha Strothers-Chalk (19 of Portsmouth, VA)
- Karim Deshawn Strothers-Chalk (19 of Portsmouth, VA)
Everyone received the following 13 misdemeanor charges:
- 5 counts - Enter vehicle with intent to commit any crime.
- 4 counts - Petit larceny.
- 2 counts - Buy/receive stolen goods valued at less than $1000.00.
- 1 count - Possess or use any registration card.
- 1 count - Identity theft.
Vehicles left unattended with keys in the ignition or valet keys inside the car are easily targeted by thieves. This dangerous practice allows for an easy theft or a joy ride by an unexperienced driver.
Vehicle theft or stealing property from inside vehicles commonly occurs in apartment complex parking lots or wherever a large group of cars are parked overnight.
When leaving your vehicle always:
- Do not leave valuables in sight.
- Close your windows.
- Turn off the ignition and remove the keys to include the valet keys.
- Lock your car doors.
