City of Williamsburg to Host Info Sessions on Capitol Landing Road Projects

The City of Williamsburg will host public information sessions on two Capitol Landing Road projects on Thursday, Oct. 27, 2022.

The public can choose to attend one of two sessions, scheduled for 2-3 p.m. and 6-7 p.m. in Room 128 of the Stryker Center, 412 N. Boundary St.

The public is invited to learn about the proposed Capitol Landing Road Corridor Improvements between Merrimac Trail and Bypass Road, as well as the proposed reconfiguration of the intersection of Capitol Landing and Bypass roads. During the meeting, City staff and engineering consultants will offer a brief overview and answer questions about the projects.

The proposed Capitol Landing Road Corridor Improvements include:

  • Reducing travel lanes from four to two
  • Adding a separated bike lane
  • Widening sidewalks to 5 feet on the east side and 8 feet on the west side
  • Placing overhead wires underground
  • Expanding water service with a 12-inch water main
  • Replacing streetlights

The proposed reconfiguration of the intersection of Capitol Landing and Bypass roads includes:

  • Realigning Capitol Landing Road to create a T-intersection with Bypass Road
  • Installing a new traffic signal
  • Connecting bicycle and pedestrian paths from the intersection to the Capitol Landing Road Corridor

These improvements were originally envisioned in 2011 by the Northeast Triangle Focus Group and first appeared in the City’s Comprehensive Plan in 2013. The current proposal is the result of public input collected in the spring of 2021. Due to COVID health and safety guidelines at the time, the City issued an online survey to businesses and residents near the corridor. Those results were presented to City Council in May 2021.
