City of Williamsburg to Host State of the City Event, In-Person and Streaming

The City of Williamsburg’s biennial State of the City Address will be presented during a public reception and stream online on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2022.

The pre-taped address will show at 6:15 p.m. as part of a public reception in the Stryker Center, 412 N. Boundary St. The event, featuring hors d’oeuvres, wine and beer, is open to the public.

The address will also stream online at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 8 on the City’s Facebook and YouTube pages, and air on Cox Cable’s WMSBGTV-48.

“For our first in-person State of the City since 2018, City Council wanted to keep the video format first introduced in 2020 without losing the camaraderie and fellowship of the prior events,” Mayor Douglas Pons said. “We invite the community to join us at the Stryker Center for food, conversation, and a look at the City’s vision for the next two years and beyond.”

The State of the City address follows months of work on the City’s 2023-2024 Goals, Initiatives, and Outcomes, which City Council approved at the November City Council meeting. During the address, members of City Council will discuss this roadmap for the next two years. The video also features remarks from William & Mary President Katherine Rowe and Colonial Williamsburg Foundation President Cliff Fleet.

The inaugural Williamsburg Mace Bearer’s Award will be presented at the in-person event. Williamsburg’s equivalent to a Key to the City, this new honor aims to recognize individuals or groups whose efforts have made a lasting, positive impact on the City of Williamsburg community. The winner of this new award will be announced online and on the City website on Dec. 8, prior to the reception.

This is the ninth State of the City event; the first was in 2006.

A teaser for the event can be found on the City’s YouTube channel.
