[ARCHIVED] City of Williamsburg COVID-19 Vaccination Update – Jan. 30, 2021

The Greater Williamsburg Clinic, operating out of the Colonial Williamsburg Visitor Center, has administered 1,928 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine since its opening on Friday, Jan. 22, 2021.

For the past week, the Greater Williamsburg Clinic has been vaccinating certain subgroups within Phase 1B of the Virginia Department of Health’s phased distribution system, such as teachers, essential local government and court personnel, jail staff, library staff, William & Mary and Colonial Williamsburg public safety personnel, and public transit workers.

The Peninsula Health District, which had launched its secondary clinic on Ironbound Road, is in the process of merging its efforts with the Greater Williamsburg Clinic, which has already begun to vaccinate some of the people who had scheduled their vaccinations through the health department.

The federal government announced this week that the number of vaccines distributed to states will increase by 16 percent, which should soon increase the number of vaccines the Greater Williamsburg Clinic is able to administer each week. Earlier this week, William & Mary contributed refrigeration and freezers to meet the vaccine needs, which have been relocated to the clinic site to increase efficiency and readiness.

We ask for your continued patience as we work toward administering vaccinations to more segments of the general public.

Find a full explanation of Phase 1B on the VDH website.

The Peninsula’s city managers, county administrators and emergency managers are working with VDH to ensure vaccinations are available to residents as soon as possible.

The City of Williamsburg has posted its weekly vaccination update to its online hub that collects the latest coronavirus information and visual data. This data now includes the number of vaccinations administered at the Greater Williamsburg Clinic. Updates include:

  • The City of Williamsburg and James City County, in partnership with Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, opened an information line for people to call with their questions about vaccination distribution in Greater Williamsburg: 877-724-1954. • In addition to the previously launched a sign-up form for people aged 65 and older, the Peninsula Health District has posted forms for other groups of people. These forms simply record people’s contact information; Peninsula Health District staff will contact those who have filled out the form to schedule a vaccination appointment. The new forms are for:
  • The Virginia Department of Health announced that Walgreens and CVS pharmacies are slated to complete vaccinations in long-term care facilities statewide by the end of February.
