The Greater Williamsburg Clinic, operating out of the Colonial Williamsburg Visitor Center, administered 1,516 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine this week for a total of 3,444 vaccinations since its opening on Friday, Jan. 22, 2021.
The clinic has been vaccinating certain subgroups within Phase 1B of the Virginia Department of Health’s phased distribution system, such as public and private school employees, daycare and childcare facilities, Virginia Department of Transportation personnel, local Community Emergency Response Team personnel, essential local government and court personnel, jail staff, library staff, William & Mary and Colonial Williamsburg personnel, and public transit workers.

The Peninsula’s city managers, county administrators and emergency managers are working with VDH to ensure vaccinations are available to residents as soon as possible.
The City of Williamsburg has posted its weekly vaccination update to its online hub, which collects the latest coronavirus information and visual data. This data includes the number of vaccinations administered at the Greater Williamsburg Clinic. Updates include:
- All of the City’s EMTs and paramedics who opted to receive the COVID-19 vaccine are now fully vaccinated; that accounts for more than 90 percent of the Williamsburg Fire Department.
- The Greater Williamsburg Clinic has administered the first dose of the vaccine to 79 percent of Williamsburg-James City County Schools employees and 71 percent of its student-teachers. All WJCC employees had the option of receiving the vaccine.
- Gov. Ralph Northam announced that all school districts should provide options for in-person learning by March 15 and encouraged schools to offer an option for classroom instruction during the summer. WJCC’s current timeline to roll out a hybrid learning plan begins the week of Feb. 16 and continues through March 8. Learn more at wjccschools.org/forward.
- CVS Pharmacy announced that 36 of its locations in Virginia will begin administering the COVID-19 vaccine, starting Thursday, Feb. 11. One of those locations will be in the Williamsburg area, though exact locations have not yet been announced. The doses will be available to those who are in Phase 1B. CVS will offer vaccines by appointment only; walk-ins are not allowed. People must schedule their appointments in advance at CVS.com, through CVS Pharmacy app, or by calling a customer service number at 800-746-7287. Appointments will not be available until Feb. 9, when CVS expects to receive its shipment of the vaccine.
