Tropical Storm Michael Update #1

Tropical Storm Michael has arrived bringing with it heavy rain and dangerous wind. The City reports the following at 2:45 a.m., Friday, October 12:

1. Trees down on the following streets have been cleared: Indian Springs, Page Street bridge, Blair/Francis, Henry, Griffin, Waller, Mill Neck, William Way, Merrimac Trail, Capitol Landing, Thomas Nelson/George Wythe, and Monticello/Compton.
2. A tree in a house on Harriet Tubman. Occupants were home and unharmed. The City is monitoring the situation.
3. Power lines down at Forest Hill, Captain Newport, S. Boundary Street, Tyler/Brooks/Robert Eliffe, Christopher Wren/John Wythe, and Quarterpath Road.
4. 2,119 customers in the City are without power - Dominion Energy is working several scenes in the region.

The City partially activated the Emergency Operations Center at 10:30 p.m. where all incidents are being reported and monitored. Everyone is urged to stay off the roads while fire, police and public works staff work to restore road access and clean up debris.

If you are using a portable generator please follow the instructions carefully and (1) never use it indoors; (2) turn it off the generator before refueling; (3) do not run a generator out in the rain. If you see a downed power line, call Dominion Energy at 866-366-4357. Stay at least 30 feet from any downed lines. If you don’t remember the Dominion phone number, call 911.
WJCC schools will open 2 hours late on Friday, October 12.
