City Manager's Proposed FY 2020 Budget Released

Post Date:03/22/2019 5:18 PM

The City Manager’s proposed fiscal year 2020 budget was released to the public and published on the City’s website today. The proposed budget total is $68,283,717 across six funds – General Fund, Utility Fund, Public Assistance Fund, Tourism Fund, Capital Improvement Fund and Quarterpath Community Development Authority Fund. The General Fund represents $37,260,618 of that total and is a 2.4% increase from last year’s General Fund. The majority of increases in expenditures supports the city’s shared increase in the school’s operating budget, increased cost of recycling, increased service demands in human services, and investments in technology that support the city’s systems and processes.

Fortunately, the city will experience revenue increases to balance these additional demands. The majority of the revenue increase is derived from an increased assessed real estate value city-wide. This proposed budget includes a conservative estimate for this increase of 4% but it could be as high as 6%. For the average property owner, this will equate to a tax bill increase of approximately $56 twice a year. Other revenue increases are attributed to business and occupational licenses.

There is no water rate increase proposed in FY 2020.

Citizens are encouraged to participate in the budget process. Public input will be received at the following meetings:

  • City Council Work Session, Monday, April 8, at 4:00 p.m., Council Chambers, Stryker Center
