Colonial Williamsburg Foundation requests that two zoning items scheduled for October 10, 2019 be tabled until November 14, 2019

Post Date:10/02/2019 3:32 PM

Yesterday, the City Manager received a request from the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation asking that its two zoning items planned for public hearing on October 10, 2019 be tabled until the business meeting on November 14, 2019. This is the second request to table these items which were originally slated for hearing in September.  The request states that the tabling would provide “additional time to complete negotiations”.

“During the last month the City of Williamsburg has worked to address concerns voiced by the community regarding the project with the applicant, the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, and the effort has been productive.  However, consensus building takes time.  Tabling these decisions will provide the greatest opportunity for the best outcome.” said City Manager Andrew Trivette.

The City staff will recommend to City Council that they grant Colonial Williamsburg Foundation’s request to table the zoning items. Should the City Council table the actions, they would be considered in full at the November 14, 2019 business meeting of the City Council.

At the September Work Session the Council received the Tourism Development Grant Review Committee’s recommendations concerning the inaugural award of grant funds and did anticipate acting on those recommendations at the October meeting.  However, the grant awards are directly related to decisions made regarding the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation’s zoning applications.  As a result the Council will not take further action on the committee recommendations unless and until the zoning applications are voted upon.
