UPDATE MARCH 26, 2020:  The following City of Williamsburg buildings and facilities are closed to the public through April 23:  Municipal Building, Stryker Center, Quarterpath Recreation Center, Waller Mill Park, Police Department and Fire Station (only required staff will be at work, others will be teleworking). Join us at Waller Mill Park for our Beginner/Intermediate Kayak classes. These one day classes will explore the basics of flatwater kayaking, review basic water safety skills and tour the Waller Mill Reservoir. 

  • Students must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Children ages 12-15 may participate if a parent or guardian is also a member of the class.
  • Students should bring their lunch.
  • No experience is necessary and all equipment will be provided.
  • This is a one day only class.

*50 if student provides their own kayak

About The Instructor:

Tim Jones has been teaching paddle sports classes since the early 1990’s. He has taught whitewater and flat-water canoeing, whitewater kayaking, and coastal kayaking. He is a parole officer for the Newport News Juvenile Court and has led outdoor programs for the court system, school system and other youth agencies in caving, backpacking, whitewater rafting, rock climbing, canoeing and sea kayaking. Tim enjoys many types of paddling, and participates in marathon and outrigger canoe racing. Tim is proud to have finished the General Clinton 70-mile canoe marathon race in New York state six times.
