The Uniform Patrol Bureau is under the command of Major Brian Carlsen and is comprised of 28 officers which are divided into four squads and one Community Engagement Unit.  The officers employ a community policing philosophy in keeping with department’s mission statement: 

"To work in partnership with the citizens of Williamsburg, providing a safe and secure environment consistent with community values, with an emphasis on responsive community based policing, integrity, fairness, and professionalism. through fair and professional police services."

Each shift is supervised by a lieutenant and a sergeant.  Patrol officers are considered first responders; they are responsible for investigating a variety of crimes and respond to all requests for police services.
