Treasurer being sworn in Jennifer Tomes was appointed the interim Treasurer on January 2, 2015. Jennifer is a lifelong resident of James City County, graduating from Lafayette High School. She has earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Saint Leo University and a Master's Degree in Management and Leadership from Liberty University.

Jennifer began her career with James City County in the Commissioner of the Revenue's Office, assisting the citizens of the County with their personal property tax records. Eventually she moved to the Treasurer's Office where she has had the honor of serving under two Treasurers: Betty S. Pettengill and M. Ann Davis. In the Treasurer's Office, Jennifer has held many positions and assisted in many areas including: business collections, delinquent collections, implementation and maintenance of the Easy Pay monthly debit program, mail processing, assisting with front window duties, and most recently becoming the Assistant Treasurer in 2012. In 2005, Jennifer received her initial certification as a Master Governmental Deputy Treasurer from the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service at the University of Virginia, and re-certified in 2011.

Jennifer’s goals include providing future trends, directions and development for the Treasurer’s office while working with other departments in the City to ensure the citizens of Williamsburg are provided excellent services.
